Why choose Emuwing over cheaper alternatives?

Emuwing is a specialist Australian manufacturer focused on premium gullwing window systems for 4WD wagons.

Our kits are vehicle-specific, dustproof, waterproof, lockable and built using quality materials designed for long-term touring use. We’ve been developing Emuwing solutions since 2007, so this is not a side product — it’s what we do.

What Makes Emuwing Different?

Emuwing is a specialist Australian manufacturer focused exclusively on premium gullwing window systems for 4WD wagons.

Unlike generic or universal solutions, Emuwing kits are designed specifically for each vehicle platform using proven engineering systems developed over many years. Our focus is on delivering the best possible combination of access, sealing performance, durability and vehicle-specific fitment.

We design our systems to handle real-world touring conditions — dustproof, waterproof, gas-strut assisted and lockable — while maintaining a clean, practical appearance that integrates naturally with the vehicle.

With one of the largest ranges of vehicle-specific gullwing solutions available, Emuwing has become a trusted name among tourers, overlanders, tradespeople and 4WD enthusiasts worldwide who are looking for a reliable side-access solutions built to last the test of time.

Why are Emuwings more expensive than some alternatives?

Emuwing kits are designed as premium, vehicle-specific access systems built for long-term touring use.

We use quality materials, stainless hardware, automotive sealing systems and model-specific engineering developed over many years. Our focus is on durability, fitment, sealing performance and ease of use — prioritising quality, reliability and long-term performance over simply building the cheapest possible gullwing window.

Are Emuwings waterproof and dustproof?

Yes. When installed correctly, Emuwings are designed to be waterproof and dustproof, keeping your cargo area clean and dry.

The key is correct installation, especially the rubber seal and frame fitment. Follow the supplied instructions carefully, and if you’re unsure, contact us or one of our recommended installers before continuing.

Like most automotive sealing systems, Emuwings are designed to handle real-world weather and touring conditions — however, they are not designed to withstand the direct high-pressure blast of a pressure washer aimed directly at the panel seal.

Do Emuwings rattle while driving?

No. When installed correctly, Emuwings are designed to remain secure and rattle-free during normal driving and off-road use.

The compression latch system pulls the panel firmly against the seals to help eliminate movement and noise.

Can I install an Emuwing myself?

Yes. Emuwing kits are designed for DIY installation, but some mechanical confidence and basic tools are recommended.

Older vehicles with simple trims are generally easier. Newer vehicles with interior plastics may require trim cutting or extra care. If your factory window is glued in place, we recommend using the correct windscreen removal tools or speaking with a professional glazier.

Written instructions are supplied and model-specific downloads are available on product pages. Our YouTube channel also has helpful install videos, but always follow the latest written instructions first.

Should I install my Emuwing myself or use an installer?

Many customers successfully install their own Emuwings at home using basic tools and careful preparation.

Some vehicles are more complex than others, particularly newer models with glued glass, interior trims or factory accessories. If you’re unsure, we recommend using one of our recommended installers.

Where are the instructions?

Installation instructions for each of our models can be found within the Downloads section on their respective model pages. We also invite you to explore our YouTube channel for comprehensive installation instructions and helpful tips.

Please be aware that our video instructions may occasionally become outdated. In such cases, it is advisable to rely on the written instructions, which are meticulously maintained and kept up to date to ensure accuracy and effectiveness.

Do you have recommended installers?

Yes. We have recommended installers in Australia and overseas.

Visit our Installation page to find an installer near you. For the smoothest process, we recommend ordering your Emuwing through your chosen installer where possible so they can manage timing, delivery and fitment.

Are they keyed alike?

Yes. Whether you order a single Emuwing or a pair, the locks are supplied keyed alike.

If you order another Emuwing or replacement locks later, let us know and we’ll do our best to match them to your existing key.

However, due to manufacturing limitations, matching lock codes cannot be guaranteed for later purchases.

How long will it take to ship?

Most of the time we keep stock on the shelf and ready to ship. In-stock kits are usually dispatched within a few business days.

Some models may be on back-order due to powder coating, glass supply, production runs or sudden demand. If your order is time-sensitive, please contact us before ordering and we can confirm current availability.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We ship Emuwing kits worldwide.

You can get an obligation-free freight quote directly through our website. For international orders, Australian GST is removed at checkout where applicable.

Are Emuwings secure?

Yes. Emuwings are lockable, keyed alike and designed to keep your gear secure.

Solid panels offer the highest level of privacy because your cargo area is completely hidden from view.

Should I choose glass or solid panels?

Glass panels are the best choice if you want a factory-style appearance, natural light and rear visibility. They are supplied untinted so you can match them to your existing window tint.

Solid panels are ideal if you want maximum privacy, security and heat reduction in the cargo area. They are tough, simple and great for touring setups, storage systems and work vehicles.

Both options are dustproof, waterproof, gas-strut assisted and lockable when installed correctly.

What Happens If I Break The Glass?

Replacement glass panels are available for many Emuwing models.

Whether you’ve damaged a panel or are completing a custom project, contact us with your vehicle model and we’ll help identify the correct replacement.

Why are some models only available in solid panels?

Developing automotive safety glass is extremely expensive due to tooling, moulds and production minimums.

We often release new models in solid-panel form first, allowing us to gauge demand before investing in glass development.

Our kits are built using quality aluminium, stainless hardware, proven sealing systems and vehicle-specific designs developed over many years.

Are there any accessories available for my Emuwing?

Yes. We are continuing to expand our range of Emuwing accessories, including light and electrical brackets, Molle storage enclosures, replacement parts and model-specific upgrades.

Availability varies by vehicle model, so check the accessories section or contact us if you’re unsure what suits your setup.

Can I buy replacement parts?

Yes. We carry a range of replacement parts for our current product lines, including hinges, gas struts, weather strips and other components.

As Emuwing products have continued to evolve over the years, some replacement parts may differ from earlier designs and may not always be compatible with older kits. We recommend checking your existing components carefully before ordering to ensure compatibility.

Do I need to drill or cut the vehicle body?

No. Emuwing kits are designed to replace the factory side window without drilling or cutting the vehicle body.

Some interior trims may need to be trimmed depending on the vehicle model, but the body itself is not cut or drilled.

Can I remove the Emuwing later?

Yes. Emuwings are designed to be reversible, as they replace the factory glass without cutting or drilling the vehicle body.

Depending on the model and installation, you may need replacement trims, seals or adhesive to return the vehicle to factory glass.

Do you offer storage enclosures behind the Emuwing?

Yes, for selected models. We are developing Emuwing storage enclosures to work neatly with our gullwing kits.

For custom storage setups, drawer systems or full touring fit-outs, we also recommend speaking with a reputable 4WD storage specialist.

How much do they cost?

Current pricing is available in our online shop.

The website also provides freight quotes, including international shipping. For export orders, Australian GST is removed at checkout where applicable.

Is powder coating included?

Yes. Solid Emuwing panels are supplied powder coated in our standard black textured finish.

If you want a custom colour, contact us before ordering. In some cases we can supply panels bare so your local powder coater can colour-match them.

Can I Colour Match My Emuwing?

Solid Emuwings are supplied in our standard black textured powder coat finish.

Some customers choose to repaint or customise the panels to suit their build. In some cases we may be able to supply panels uncoated by request.

Is rear air conditioning an issue?

Yes, in several of our models, the presence of rear air conditioning can present unique installation challenges. To get more information tailored to your specific vehicle, we recommend reaching out to one of our knowledgeable Emuwing team members.

We'd like to highlight that, in response to high demand, we now offer a dedicated solution designed specifically for the GU Patrol with rear air conditioning. When placing your order, please make sure to select this option to ensure a seamless fit for your vehicle.

Will an Emuwing work with drawer systems and storage setups?

Yes — Emuwings are designed specifically to improve access to drawer systems, fridges, storage enclosures and touring setups.

Side access makes it much easier to reach equipment without needing to climb through the rear of the vehicle.

Is the glass tinted?

Our glass panels are supplied untinted, primarily because matching tint to your specific vehicle can be challenging. Tinting options not only include a variety of shades but also base colors, which can vary significantly. To ensure the perfect tint match for your car, we recommend taking the panels to your preferred window tinting professional.

For those looking for a trusted tinting service, we can confidently recommend The Tint Factory in Campbellfield, Victoria. They are our preferred choice for expert window tinting services.

Does the glass comply with Australian standards?

Yes. Our automotive safety glass is manufactured to meet Australian and international requirements.

Glass panels are supplied clear and untinted so you can tint them locally to match your vehicle.

Do Emuwings follow the shape of the vehicle?

Yes. Emuwings are designed to follow the shape and contour of the vehicle as closely as possible.

Some models have a more complex body shape than others, but our goal is always a clean, vehicle-specific fit that looks like it belongs.

Is there a warranty?

Yes. Emuwing kits include a 12-month hardware warranty covering faulty parts.

Please refer to our Returns and Refunds Policy for full details.

Will I need to trim interior plastics?

Some vehicles require interior plastic trims to be trimmed around the window area.

We recommend checking the model-specific instructions before installation and test-fitting everything before permanently bonding the frame into place.

Where can I find model-specific information?

Each product page includes model-specific details, downloads and notes where relevant.

Some vehicles have special considerations such as rear air conditioning, diversity antennas, interior trims or passenger-seat limitations, so always check the product page before ordering.

Will I need to replace my antenna?

Please note that for several of our models, window-mounted diversity antennas may need to be replaced during the installation of an Emuwing. To confirm whether this applies to your specific model, we recommend checking the model-specific information available in our shop or by contacting us directly for clarification.

Can I call if I get stuck during installation?

Yes. If you get stuck during installation, contact the Emuwing team by phone or email and we’ll help where we can.

Our regular hours are Monday to Thursday, 9am–5pm, and Friday, 9am–2pm.

Can I buy one glass and one solid as a pair?

Yes. You can mix and match glass and solid Emuwing panels to suit your setup.

Please note that mixed pairs are priced as individual units and do not qualify for our standard pair discount pricing.

Will rear air conditioning interfere with installation?

Some vehicles with factory rear air conditioning may require special consideration during installation.

For example, the left side of the GU Patrol can interfere with the rear A/C ducting. We now offer solutions designed specifically to suit vehicles fitted with rear air conditioning.

Always check the product page or contact us before ordering if your vehicle has factory rear A/C.

Will removing the factory glass affect my radio reception?

Some vehicles use diversity antennas integrated into the factory glass. In many cases, customers notice little or no change in reception after installing an Emuwing.

If reception is affected, an aftermarket antenna solution may be required depending on the vehicle.

Are the glass panels tinted?

No. Emuwing glass panels are supplied clear and untinted.

This allows the tint to be matched locally to your existing vehicle glass for the best overall appearance.

Are Emuwings legal for road use?

Emuwing kits are designed as replacement side windows for off-road touring and recreational vehicles.

Automotive safety glass options are manufactured to meet Australian and international standards. Vehicle regulations can vary depending on location and vehicle usage, so customers should ensure compliance with local requirements where necessary.

Can I mount accessories or weight to the Emuwing?

Emuwings are designed primarily as access panels and are not intended to support heavy loads or act as structural mounting points.

Lightweight accessories may be suitable depending on the setup, but excessive weight can affect operation and longevity.

Why isn’t my vehicle available yet?

We continue expanding the Emuwing range across new vehicle platforms as development opportunities arise.

While we would love to offer an Emuwing solution for every vehicle on the market, product development is a lengthy and expensive process involving vehicle sourcing, engineering, tooling and extensive testing. As a result, higher-demand vehicles generally take priority over lower-volume platforms.

Vehicle demand, glass tooling costs, available development vehicles and engineering complexity all influence which models are developed next.

Even if an Emuwing is not currently available for your specific vehicle, hearing about customer interest plays an important role in shaping future development. Your vehicle may not be available today — but that doesn’t mean it isn’t on our radar for future releases.

Keep your eyes peeled… your vehicle might just be next, and sign up to the newsletter so your first to know what's coming..

How long will an Emuwing last?

Emuwings are designed for long-term touring and off-road use using quality materials, stainless hardware and durable sealing systems.

With proper installation and occasional maintenance, they are built to provide many years of reliable operation.
